My Metamorphosis to a Reasonably Confident Adult In grade school, I can recollect being offended and mortified in light of the fact that I showed qualities a portion of my companions thought were female. I was educated that I strolled, talked, and by and large acted like a young lady. I review sentiments of outrage and disdain blended in with disgrace and reluctance. I asked why I was being singled out. Presently I understood that each kid who gave some hint of womanliness was singled out, not simply me. Perhaps my hair is excessively long. Possibly there is simply some kind of problem with me. All things considered, fitting in with my misogynist, homophobic companions was my fundamental goal. I wore manly dress (dull hues, business shirts, workboots), got a short hair style, and brought down my voice around three octaves when I talked. Exercise center class was my most exceedingly terrible fear. As Cooper Thompson says, Serious activites . . . too effortlessly become an exercise in the requirement for sturdiness, safety, and strength. This was 100% valid in my middle school. The most rough children governed the rec center class, and they got the most acknowledgment from the educator. On the off chance that one of them made a savage tackle in a football match-up, for example, he would be extolled by the educator, who called such children men. obviously, I felt like not exactly a man, since I was unable to play sports for my life. This loathsome truth was uncovered each time exercise center class met, and I was humiliated. Disappointed with my clumsiness, I went through hours rehearsing without anyone else: shooting bushels, hitting balls, anything to increase some physical coordination. By and large, I giggle about how much exertion I put into dazzling my companions in rec center class! In the end, P.E. didn't embar rass me so much, yet dread of disparagement kept me from ever going for a group. In secondary school, I made a couple of old buddies individuals who like me for the manner in which I was and couldn't have cared less in the event that I was bumbling at specific things. Badoo was founded by Russian tech entrepreneur Andrey Andreev, after his earlier successes with Spylog, Begun, and Mamba, respectively. The last of these businesses, Mamba, a dating service launched in 2004, was where Andreev first explored the possibility of offering subscribers enhanced visibility for a fee. The site was profitable in its second month, driven by this business model. After Mamba was sold in 2007, Andreev focu sed his full attention on Badoo, obtaining $30 million in venture capital in 2008.Andreev initially launched Badoo in Spain in late 2006, as a then-unprofitable photo-sharing website. Nevertheless, it remains immensely popular around the world.Robert Scoble Interviews Ben Ling, COO of Badoo at LeWeb London 2012 PURPOSE OF BADOOThe purpose of Badoo, says its founder Andreev in a 2012 interview with TechCrunch, is “about making it ‘as easy as possible to bring people together, so they can chat, make friends, date, and have fun.’” In another interview in 2012, he has described Badoo as a “nightclub on your phone.” While Badoo is heavily used for dating and/or hooking up, its real value lies in what is known, in industry parlance, as “social discovery.” Social discovery is: “the act of a website presenting content that is predicted to be desirable or relevant to a person based on that person’s social preferences.” In Badoo’s case, it is paired with IP-based geolocation, the basis of location marketing, to satisfy a user’s desire for real-time in-person social interaction. In a 2011 interview with Wired, Badoo CEO Bart Swanson said of Badoo’s unique model:“The opportunity for people discovery [through Badoo] is a horrendously large market its a confluence of social, proximity, mobile, and its extremely local. By titling his work, The Necklace, Maupassant is immediately notifying readers to pay special attention to this object. What does the necklace symbolize? Less frequent but sometimes present are depressed mood, stomach pain and physical discomfort, shakiness, and sweating†. The most famous sociological groups, functionalists and Marxists, were part of this and still are today. They both think that their views are best for society. Parsons was criticized as he failed to consider that the values transmitted by the educational system may be those of a ruling minority rather than society as a whole. Like parsons, functionalists Davis and Moore saw education as a means of selecting or shifting people for different levels of the jobs market and ensuring that the most talented and qualified individuals are allocated to the most important jobs with high rewards. Society is therefore meritocracy in which people are rewarded for intelligence, ability and effort. They where criticized because the relationship between academic credentials and occupational reward is not close. Income is only weakly linked to educational attainment. There is doubt about the proposition that the educational system grades people in terms of ability. It has been argued that intelligence is so difficult to pin down that school achievement can never equal ‘intelligence’. While Marxists do share many ideas of functionalists e. g. the fact that education prepares us for out acceptance of the values of society they also see how the education system is alienating children. Functionalists, on the other hand, seem unable to see this and believe that the education system can only do well to children by teaching them norms and values. Initially, this is seen as the witches speak in the opening scene. "Fair is foul," they say, "and foul is fair" (I, 1, 12). The Weird sisters also speak in this manner when they address Banquo. They tell him he will be "Lesser than Macbeth and greater" (I, 3, 68). Although this seems perplexing, one later finds that what they say is true; though Banquo does not become a king he is a better man than Macbeth. In the fourth act, many things "double." The witches wish upon Macbeth double the pain, and he wants to be double sure about himself. Another example of equivocation is the imaginary liar the drunken porter allows into the gates of hell. This further proves that this eluding form of speech is wicked and deserves punishment. By saying two separate things together as truth, one is unsure about the validity of the statement. Another confusing aspect of Macbeth is the reality of the impossible and supernatural. The witches, whether real or illusion, had an enormous effect on the lives of the characters. They make Macbeth believe he has control over his fate, and by doing so they have changed his fate. The apparitions they bring about also have great impact on Macbeth's plans and state of mind. These images contradict one another, making him be more concerned with which statement is true, than the apparitions' own legitimacy. One, an armed head, cries, "Beware Macduff!/ Beware the Thane of Fife!" (IV, 1, 81-82). The next ghost, a bloody child, tells Macbeth, "Laugh to scorn/The power of man, for none of woman born/ shall harm Macbeth" (IV, 1, 90-93). One would be skeptical of these prophecies, because one says to beware Macduff and another says not to fear anyone. Macbeth, however, continues to put his trust in them, and this leads to his downfall. The dramatic climax occurs when Macbeth sees the ghost of Banquo sitting at his dinner table. He is the only one who can see the ghost, and the dinner guests think their host is going crazy. Certainly, the existence of this ghost, visible only to one man, is questionable. Through all their trials, the main characters agree that appearance is often a poor indication of reality. This is seen from the point of view of both the liars and the deceived. Macbeth and Lady Macbeth say that they should hide their ambitions from Duncan and the other guests. "False face must hide what the false heart doth know," says Macbeth at the close of Act 1 (I, 7, 95). Lady Macbeth encourages herself and her husband to pretend to be peaceful but be offensive and wicked. There is also a lot of mention of clothes, which cover and loosely hide what is truly underneath. Malcolm, who is cautious of cover-ups and lies, eloquently says to Macduff, "Though all things foul would wear the brows of grace/ Yet grace must still look so" (IV, 3, 29-30). This means that everything, even evil things, can appear harmless and pure. Nothing should be judged only by its visible attributes. The dual nature of people and situations, confusing the issue of fact and fantasy, is a major theme illustrated in Macbeth. This is seen first through the equivocations of the Weird sisters and others. Also, the supernatural beings and occurrences reinforce the idea. Lastly, characters' notice of the triviality of appearance further demonstrates the theme. Because Macbeth was too trusting in that which could not be trusted, he was bound to fall tragically.

The Battle of Alam Halfa in North Africa During WW II The Battle of Alam Halfa was fought from August 30 to September 5, 1942, during World War IIs Western Desert Campaign. Armies Commanders Allies Lieutenant General Bernard Montgomery4 divisions, XIII Corps, Eighth Army Axis Field Marshal Erwin Rommel6 divisions, Panzer Armee Afrika Background Leading to the Battle With the conclusion of the First Battle of El Alamein in July 1942, both British and Axis forces in North Africa paused to rest and refit. On the British side, Prime Minister Winston Churchill travelled to Cairo and relieved Commander-in-Chief Middle East Command General Claude Auchinleck and replacing him with General Sir Harold Alexander. Command of the British Eight Army at El Alamein ultimately was given to Lieutenant General Bernard Montgomery. Assessing the situation at El Alamein, Montgomery found that the front was constricted to a narrow line running from the coast to the impassable Qattara Depression. Montgomerys Plan To defend this line, three infantry divisions from XXX Corps were positioned on ridges running from the coast south to Ruweisat Ridge. To the south of the ridge, the 2nd New Zealand Division was similarly fortified along a line ending at Alam Nayil. In each case, the infantry was protected by extensive minefields and artillery support. The final twelve miles from Alam Nayil to the depression was featureless and difficult to defend. For this area, Montgomery ordered that minefields and wire be laid, with the 7th Motor Brigade Group and 4th Light Armoured Brigade of the 7th Armoured Division in position behind. When attacked, these two brigades were to inflict maximum casualties before falling back. Montgomery established his main defensive line along the ridges running east from Alam Nayil, most notably Alam Halfa Ridge. It was here that he positioned the bulk of his medium and heavy armor along with anti-tank guns and artillery. It was Montgomerys intention to entice Field Marshal Erwin Rommel to attack through this southern corridor and then defeat him in a defensive battle. As British forces assumed their positions, they were augmented by the arrival of reinforcements and new equipment as convoys reached Egypt. Rommels Advance Across the sands, Rommels situation was growing desperate as his supply situation worsened. While he advance across the desert had seen him win stunning victories over the British, it had badly extended his supply lines. Requesting 6,000 tons of fuel and 2,500 tons of ammunition from Italy for his planned offensive, Allied forces succeeded in sinking over half of the ships dispatched across the Mediterranean. As a result, only 1,500 tons of fuel reached Rommel by the end of August. Aware of Montgomerys growing strength, Rommel felt compelled to attack with the hope of winning a quick victory. Constrained by the terrain, Rommel planned to push the 15th and 21st Panzer Divisions, along with the 90th Light Infantry through the southern sector, while the bulk of his other forces demonstrated against the British front to the north. Once through the minefields, his men would push east before turning north to sever Montgomerys supply lines. Moving forward on the night of August 30, Rommels attack quickly encountered difficulty. Spotted by the Royal Air Force, British aircraft began attacking the advancing Germans as well as directing artillery fire on their line of advance. The Germans Held Reaching the minefields, the Germans found them to be much more extensive than anticipated. Slowly working through them, they came under intense fire from the 7th Armoured Division and British aircraft which exacted a high toll, including wounding General Walther Nehring, commander of the Afrika Korps. Despite these difficulties, the Germans were able to clear the minefields by noon the next day and began pressing east. Eager to make up lost time and under constant harassing attacks from 7th Armoured, Rommel ordered his troops to turn north earlier than planned. This maneuver directed the assault against the 22nd Armoured Brigades positions on Alam Halfa Ridge. Moving north, the Germans were met with intense fire from the British and were halted. A flank attack against the British left was stopped by heavy fire from anti-tank guns. Stymied and short on fuel, General Gustav von Vaerst, now leading the Afrika Korps, pulled back for the night. Attacked through the night by British aircraft, German operations on September 1 were limited as 15th Panzer had a dawn attack checked by the 8th Armoured Brigade and Rommel began moving Italian troops into the southern front. Under constant air attack during the night and into the morning hours of September 2, Rommel realized that the offensive had failed and decided to withdraw west. His situation was made more desperate when a column of British armored cars badly mauled one of his supply convoys near Qaret el Himeimat. Realizing his adversarys intentions, Montgomery began formulating plans for counterattacks with the 7th Armoured and 2nd New Zealand. In both cases, he emphasized that neither division should incur losses that would preclude them from taking part in a future offensive. While a major push from 7th Armoured never developed, the New Zealanders attacked south at 10:30 PM on September 3. While the veteran 5th New Zealand Brigade had success against the defending Italians, an assault by the green 132nd Brigade collapsed due to confusion and fierce enemy resistance. Not believing a further attack would succeed, Montgomery cancelled further offensive operations the next day. As a result, the German and Italian troops were able to retreat back to their lines, though under frequent air attack. The Battles Aftermath The victory at Alam Halfa cost Montgomery 1,750 killed, wounded, and missing as well as 68 tanks and 67 aircraft. Axis losses totaled around 2,900 killed, wounded, and missing along with 49 tanks, 36 aircraft, 60 guns, and 400 transport vehicles. Often overshadowed by the First and Second Battles of El Alamein, Alam Halfa represented the last significant offensive launched by Rommel in North Africa. Far from his bases and with his supply lines crumbling, Rommel was forced to move to the defensive as British strength in Egypt grew. In the wake of the battle, Montgomery was criticized for not pressing harder to cut off and destroy the Afrika Korps when it was isolated on his southern flank. He responded by stating that Eighth Army was still in the process of reforming and lacked the logistical network to support the exploitation of such a victory. Also, he was adamant that he wished to preserve British strength for a planned offensive rather than risk it in counterattacks against Rommels defenses. Having shown restraint at Alam Halfa, Montgomery moved to the attack in October when he opened the Second Battle of El Alamein. Evo Devo in the Study of Biology Have you heard anyone ever talk about evo-devo? Does it sound like some sort of synthesizer-heavy band from the 1980s? It is actually a relatively new field in the realm of evolutionary biology that explains how species, that start out so similarly, become so diverse as they develop. Evo devo stands for evolutionary developmental biology and has just started being included in the Modern Synthesis of the Theory of Evolution within the past few decades. This field of study encompasses many different ideas and some scientists disagree on what all should be included. However, all who study evo devo agree that the foundation of the field is based on the gene level of inheritance which leads to microevolution. As an embryo develops, certain genes need to be activated in order for the traits carried on that gene to be expressed. Most of the time, there are biological clues for these genes to turn on based on the age of the embryo. Sometimes, environmental conditions can trigger the expression of the developmental genes as well. Not only do these triggers turn on the gene, they also direct the gene on how to be expressed. There are subtle differences between the arms of different animals that are determined by how the genes that carry the trait for limb development are expressed. The same gene that creates a human arm can also create a sparrows wing or a grasshoppers leg. They are not different genes, as previously thought by scientists. Evo Devo and the Theory of Evolution What does this mean for the Theory of Evolution? First and foremost, it lends credibility to the idea that all life on Earth came from a common ancestor. This common ancestor had the exact same genes we see today in all of our modern species. It is not the genes that have evolved over time. Instead, it is how and when (and if) those genes are expressed that has evolved. Also, it helps to give an explanation for how the beak shape of Darwins finches on the Galapagos Islands could have evolved. Natural Selection is the mechanism that chooses which of these ancient genes are expressed and ultimately how they are expressed. Over time, the differences in gene expression led to the great diversity and large numbers of different species we see in the world today. The theory of evo devo also explains why so few genes can create so many complex organisms. It turns out that the same genes are used over and over again but in different ways. The genes that are expressed to create arms in humans may also be used to create legs or even a human heart. Therefore, it is more important how the genes are expressed than how many genes are present. Developmental genes across species are the same and can be expressed in a nearly unlimited number of ways. Embryos of many different species are nearly indistinguishable from each other at the early stages before these developmental genes are turned on. Early embryos of all species have gills or gill pouches and similar overall shapes. It is crucial for these developmental genes to be activated correctly at the right time and at the right place. Scientists have been able to manipulate genes in fruit flies and other species to make limbs and other body parts grow in different places on the body. This proved these genes control many different parts of embryo development. The field of evo devo reaffirms the validity of using animals for medical research. An argument against animal research is the obvious difference in complexity and structure between humans and the research animals. However, with such similarities on a molecular and gene level, studying those animals can give insight into the human, and particularly the development and gene activation of humans.

The Symbolic Meaning Behind the Black Procession in OConners A Late E

The Symbolic Meaning Behind the Black Procession in O'Conner's A Late Encounter with the Enemy Czechoslovakian philosopher and political mind Vaclav Havel, in his discourse The Power of the Powerless, talks about the danger of "living within a lie" (84). He argues that individuals who refuse to develop a strong sense of self and instead "merge with the anonymous crowd and flow comfortably along with it down the river of pseudo-life" (38) inevitably experience a "profound crisis of human identity" (45). Havel was speaking specifically of communism, but more broadly of the human condition. His warning is similar to moral message of Southern writer Flannery O'Conner in her short stories, specifically A Late Encounter with the Enemy. O'Conner, unlike Havel, sends her message through her fictional characters. They frequently live in contrived worlds the neglect the realities of their lives. O'Conner operates on a highly symbolic and ironic level to demonstrate this to her readers. In A Late Encounter with the Enemy, the General is typical of O'Conner's characters, unwilling to reveal his actual self. But when he is faced with the black procession at graduation, it reminds him of his true, forgotten past, and it is this truth -- the enemy -- which ultimately leads to his death. The General refuses to remember the past. He refers to it as "a dreary black procession" (399). The past is of no importance to him because he is only concerned with the present. All he cares for are parades and "beautiful guls" (400). The General is able to justify his avoidance of the past. O'Conner tells us that he "didn't have any use for history because he never expected to meet it again" (399). There is only one moment from the... ...he gives about him, giving the reader a clear picture of what sort of character he is. But he is weak in his sense of self, content to live as a symbol of a glorious past rather than as a true human. O'Conner exploits this weakness and slowly breaks the General down through the course of the story. She demonstrates the dangers of living a lie, of becoming someone that one is not. Her message is that the fate of the General will be the fate of all man if he chooses to live within a lie. O'Conner warns that life lived without human identity is comparable to Havel's river of pseudo-life. Only she uses the image of a black procession -- dark, solemn and resulting in painful death. (10 marks) Introduction This question will focus on defining and differentiating Personnel Management from HRM, it will also examine some technological and social challenges, as potential external business environment challenges faced by the company, and will discus an effective HR Planning process and method to address those challenges. a) Definitions and Differences Personnel Management: Is the administrative discipline which mainly works around Industrial/ Employee/ Labour Relations and activities connected with grievance handling,  negotiations, enforcement of labour statute, looking after welfare of employees and so on. Human Resource Management: The process of hiring and developing employees so that they become more valuable to the organization and more integrated towards the goals and strategy of the company. One difference between PM and HRM is that in PM, the power distribution is centralized where the top management has full authority in decision-making. Personnel managers are not allowed to take part in any decision which involves employees, or give ideas. HRM, looks for the decentralization of power, where the power between the top, middle and lower management groups is shared. Another difference between PM and HRM is that, pay policies in PM is merely based on skills and knowledge required for the perspective jobs only. The value is based on the ability to perform the task and duties required. In HRM, organizations look beyond pay for functional duties. The pay is designed to encourage continuous improvement and job performance. Enterprise applies this concept when they encourage their employees to â€Å"develop a career† instead of â€Å"just perform a task†, by providing training and mentoring to those employees, and, providing opportunities for professional growth by making promotions and transfers available, other than that just the payment. b) External Business Environment Challenges Technological challenge: the rented vehicles tracking system combines the use of automatic vehicle location in each individual vehicle, with software that collects these fleet data for a comprehensive picture of vehicle locations, very helpful for real time updates and for client monitoring in case of  accidents. Nowadays, GPS is commonly used as a vehicle tracking system. This system needs to be monitored and maintained by qualified persons to ensure they work at their best. If these systems do not work properly , services won’t be delivered as they should and customer dissatisfaction will occur. This will result in losses, bad publicity and even a fatality in the event of an accident. Conclusion This question has explained how a Job Design for a particular role can accommodate different types of candidates, starting from people who would like their duties increased, passing through people who would like their job tasks mix upgraded and a more flexible time schedule, to people who could share responsibilities for mutual learning. The recruitment strategies that I proposed have the purpose to provide a pool of candidates from where the most suitable candidates will be picked. Recruitment Methods, their Benefits and Constraints. The first recruiting method would be an internal one: a transfer, I would  advertise an application form to transfer an experienced Assistant manager from one of the existing branches. This ensures that the person taking this position has the required experience and knowledge for the role, and that he/she is already familiar with the company’s methods. However this will leave a vacancy in the other branch. The second one is an internal one as well, promotion. I would advertise an application form to promote a Management Assistant from another branch to the position of Assistant Manager. This method can increase motivation within the staff because they see career growth opportunities. However, this can create a high competitive environment where friction between staff members can occur. The third recruiting method that I would use would be an external one, I would advertise the job position to local independent contractors. This might bring a candidate that brings new and fresh ideas to the company and it’s familiar with the new area of the branch in NZ. This method allows to hire people that are specialized in certain areas of expertise. However, this can be expensive. When my partner and I were looking for options on what to research, we decided that we were going to research something that we were actually interested on, we decided to research â€Å"Technology in Physical Education†. Many would think to themselves, how can technology be useful in PE? Technology over the years has played a big role in improving PE and finding out new ways to better students. Technology in PE is effective and efficient form of teaching, it’s accessible, and best used when the technology is appropriate. The way that technology can be effective in PE is by making sure that the technology you are using is having a positive impact in your classroom and your teaching methods. As health concerns, you can show the kids healthy food choices at a young age so as they grow they start to realize for themselves what is healthy and unhealthy. Also, when teaching a certain sport or trying to explain something, a teacher can simply go online and research more on the topic to get a better understanding of what has to be taught. By showing the student’s videos of how to do certain things, the students can understand it better so when it is time to perform the task they can recall to watching the video and perform the task. There are also many inspiration videos so that they kids can get motivated and excited to attend gym class. When a teacher isn’t strong in a certain subject they can go online and research more so that when it is time to present to the class they can be more familiar with the topic and effectively teach the students on what to do. Accessibility plays a huge role because teachers have the ability to adapt to the way different learning styles of students. There are different kind of games that the teacher can teach so that each student can have fun and learn out of. There are some kids who learn in different ways. Some are visual learners, some need extra explanation, and most important, there are some kids who are overweight and have disabilities. But
